It was 2 years ago that I was over my head in debt. That’s when I started this blog in my quest to get rid of debt. Initially, I wasn’t off to a good start because the approach I first tried failed. That changed when months later I took a different direction.
Basically what I was trying to achieve is a blog where I could brainstorm and post what I was doing to reduce my debt that would also be helpful for others to reduce and get rid of debt too. I started by accepting donations on the site but that aspect didn’t work out and was scrapped because most of the people who were visiting my site were also in the same boat so hardly in a position to help anyone else out. And really when you think about it, no one should expect anyone else to bail them out and just take action in getting rid of their debt. The reality is there is no overnight solution and it’s going to take time to eliminate it. Read more »

I’m sure those who are deep in debt and in dire need of money have thought of it…”if only I could win the lottery I would be debt-free”. So what are the chances of winning the lottery? The odds say less chance than getting hit by lightning. When’s the last time you got hit by lightning?
It’s hard enough to win the lotto once but I just don’t get how a few lucky people win more than once, sometimes 2 or 3 times even. I remember one guy won millions 3 times over a span of a few years Read more »

Finally after almost 2 years, my house is sold. And I should be debt-free right? Wrong. Unfortunately over time the house prices had fallen and I got behind on the property taxes. On top of that I had a nightmare buyer to deal with, so in the end I got less for the property than I should have thanks to the wonderful realtor I hired, who by the way also took a chunk of the pie – his fat commission. One thing I learned is never sell a house through a realtor. Why? Because it always seems to favor the buyer as they seem to bring enough of them in who pick at everything to get the seller down as much as possible, and make it look like all buyers are saying the same, when in fact they are bringing mostly ones that are not “serious buyers”. If I had a million dollars, I certainly wouldn’t be worrying about debt because I would be debt-free. A million dollars these days isn’t worth as much as it used to be, but it sure can accomplish plenty. Not to mention give the added security of not worrying about where your next dollar will be coming from.
You can tell by the huge amounts spent on the lottery how much people strive for that million dollar dream whether they truly need it or not. But who couldn’t use it? For me right now a million dollars would be a bright light at the end of a dark tunnel. Not having to worry about money would be an ultimate goal to achieve.
Well since I can only dream at this point but if somehow a million dollars dropped in my lap today, this is what I would do with it:
1. Pay all my debt and close my credit cards..forever.
2. Take my home off the market and pay the mortgage in full.
3. Buy a new car…not a fancy one.
4. Financially help relatives and friends.
5. Donate to an animal shelter and world hunger.
6. Pamper my cat with special treats and a day at the pet spa.
7. Give back by creating a website to help others to achieve their goals.
8. Invest in internet real estate to passively earn from.
9. Keep a savings for a rainy day to fall back on.
10. Buy some bird seeds, take a leisurely walk through the park, feed the birds and start living the dot com lifestyle appreciating the simple things in life.
There’s nothing wrong with dreaming because dreams can come true. Now I just have to work on achieving my goals.
What are some things you would do if you had a million dollars?
